The EIT Health Summit, held on 4-5 December in Łódź (Poland), brought together over 400 experts in medical innovation from all over Europe. The aim of the event was to discuss some of the biggest current challenges in healthcare, and the latest innovations to overcome them.
One of the highlights for this year was the first EIT Health Think Tank, a forum that gathered 100 experts to discuss the potential of existing Big Data to improve healthcare. A full report summarises the key points and recommends future steps. Furthermore, the event’s Access to smart funding panel introduced Aescuvest, an equity crowdfunding platform for health innovators.
The Summit also hosted the European Health Catapult Business Plan Competition finals, in which winners were selected in three categories. The winner in the biotech category was SyNoesis, a start-up which is working on a cure for Parkinson’s disease. In the medtech category, Aenitis Technologies took first place for their device which efficiently sorts and processes cells in suspension. The digital health winner was Sleepiz, whose innovative wireless device allows for a home diagnosis of sleep apnea.
In a parallel session, CaixaImpulse was presented to representatives from EIT Health’s Accelerator programme, as well as business creation managers from each of its regional centres. It represented a new opportunity to disseminate the programme, which is supported by EIT Health and open to projects all across Europe.
