Back in March, an open call was put to startups with the potential and desire to disrupt the healthcare system with transformative technological breakthroughs. The finalists have now been selected, and will be competing at semifinals in each category over the next few months. A jury of experts will select the 7 best startups from each, who will be invited to pitch to a room full of investors at this year’s EIT Health Summit in Paris. As well as having the opportunity to win a grand prize of €40,000, the startups will receive individualised training in business plan optimisation, and access to EIT Health’s network of experts.
This year, Eureka! Science Museum in San Sebastian will host the Medtech semifinal, which will be held 30 September until 2 October. “la Caixa” is a co-organiser of this event, along with Tecnalia, Tecnalia Ventures, IESE Business School and Biocat.
This is a public event, and so investors, corporations, health institutions and Medtech representatives are invited to attend and discover the latest startups set to have an impact in health innovation.
Among the 14 Medtech startups pitching their business plans in San Sebastian are PKvitality, who are creating a bio-wearable device that continuously and painlessly monitors blood glucose, NU-RISE, who have developed a technology to track radiation in real-time, allowing for safer and more personalised delivery of radiotherapy, and the Barcelona-based startup, Biel Glasses, who are developing smart glasses to provide more autonomy to people with low vision that cannot be corrected with regular glasses.
